yesterday was my seminar day.
it was fucking cold and windy....when i walked over to the classroom, the wind chill was about -5 and it was snowing....but with the wind, the flakes felt like tiny pebbles pelting my face. i had to bring a change of clothes to school so that my suit wouldn't be soaked or ripped or nething like that. besides, the material wasn't warm enough to adequately block the wind on a day such as that. when i got to the classroom, with my multiple bags due to clothing, lappy, etc., the tech guys were replacing the hub puter that the projector runs through. they finished 15 minutes prior to start time. cam-chan axually arrived well before i was able to setup! i figured with the weather he'd get there just in the nick of time, but he was way early! jewett showed up shortly after cam-chan as alexis (his wife) was available to watch ethan (their son). bob also showed up....after driving from iowa on 3 hrs sleep O_o greg was late due to teaching, but rushed over. needless to say....i felt a bit of pressure since they had sacrificed to see my seminar. it had to be good.
apparently, it went rather well. really well. i've been congratulated on doing well by everyone i've seen today! i even got positive comments on my hair and clothing O.O bob actually told me that i'm a great public speaker and that he was very proud of me! this was echoed by brian and greg. i'm still awaiting the paper review sheets (all students are required to fill out a sheet rating each speaker), but I'm hoping their good as well.
after the seminar, cam-chan took me out for dinner - japanese ^_^ we had teriyaki chicken, miso soup, tempura vegetables, dragon roll (sushi with eel, tempura shrimp, sea-weed, and veggies), green tea, and sapporo. it was so good! following, we went home and i got to play some legend of zelda: spirit tracks, which is fucking amazing so far.
however, i'm not certain that my thesis will get submitted tomorrow. bob and brian were out of town this week for a weather field deployment (getting data in the blizzard), and haven't had time to really read any of the new stuff. i originally sent my results and conclusions chapter out about 3 weeks ago, but with all the field deployments, i didn't get comments until this week O_o as such, my new stuff is in limbo. if i'm to be officially graduated this week, it's to be submitted tomorrow. unfortunately, i don't think it's going to fucking happen. they're too busy....but it's ok. i was assured that it would be done and i'd have comments and be able to submit it next week....i won't technically graduate until may then (spring semester)....but i'll be done as far as the department is concerned....and it's not to any fault of my own....it's just the deck of cards i was dealt this month i guess.
at least my seminar is out of the way and it apparently went well.
now just to get the thesis done.
fuck. yay?
and to study for my croatian final exam next week wednesday. i don't think it'll be too hard. i'm becoming more conversational and that's how our exam is setup. basically repetition of words to show pronunciation per vocal cues and engaging in small conversations on predetermined topics.
speaking of which, i gotta jet and get to studying.
doviđenja!
